As an overseas American liberal arts university in Italy, John Cabot mission and goal is to create a community of both degree-seeking and study abroad students, while making our study abroad program as affordable as possible.

To recognize the important role study abroad students have in promoting JCU’s mission, we offer generous scholarship awards based on merit and financial need and have compiled a list of external scholarship resources, for students interested in external funding opportunities. We also participate in U.S. Title IV Program, which allows students to transfer any existing financial aid from their U.S. home institution to JCU bad credit payday loans Alaska, to finance their studies in Rome, Italy.

The JCU Scholarship Committee determines Study Abroad Scholarship award amounts based on academic merit and potential to benefit from the JCU experience as expressed in the application essay.

Study Abroad Financial Aid Opportunities

  • Gap Year and Independent Study Abroad students, as well as students studying at JCU through Tulane Spring Scholars and USC Freshman Program
  • US Citizens are required to insert JCU’s School Code G33293 in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Students who apply to JCU through providers (SAI, API, or CEA), come under an existing university agreement, or pay tuition and fees directly to their home institution are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Study Abroad Scholarship recipients who attend JCU for two consecutive semesters will have their scholarship renewed pending satisfactory academic performance in their initial semester. The Study Abroad Scholarship award will be prorated for students who enroll in fewer than 10 credits for the Fall or Spring term, or fewer than 6 credits during Summer Sessions. The prorated amount will be calculated using the percentage discount of the scholarship on the full time tuition cost.

John Cabot University HBCU Scholarships are automatically applied to students enrolled at an accredited HBCU. The award amounts are $500 per summer session and $1000 per fall or spring semester.

John Cabot University Summer Engineering Scholarships of $500 per session are automatically applied to engineering majors. Please check with your study abroad office or contact us regarding eligibility and for additional cost information. For further information, contact [email protected] .

The Hon. Frank Guarini, Chair of John Cabot University’s Board of Trustees, has provided a generous donation to the Columbus Citizens Foundation providing scholarships up to $5,000 for five Italian-American visiting students at JCU each year.

The Columbus Guarini Scholarship application is now open for students applying to the Fall 2022, Spring 2023, and Summer 2023 semesters and who meet the following eligibility requirements:

Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Frank J. Guarini received his education from Dartmouth College, Columbia University, New York University School of Law, and pursued advanced studies at The Hague Academy of International Law, the Netherlands. Guarini received the Navy Commendation Medal and three Battle Stars for his service during World War II. After working for many years as a successful attorney, he became interested in politics serving in the New Jersey State Senate for two terms and in the U.S. House of Representatives for seven terms. Throughout his career in public and private life, he has always maintained a strong interest in education. He founded centers and institutes at Dartmouth College, New York University School of Law, St. Peter’s University, New Jersey City University, and John Cabot University. He is also Chair emeritus of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF)
